RNA Methyltransferase Antibody Featured in Cell and Nature Journals

RNA methyltransferases such as METTL3, METTL14, WTAP, and VIR can catalyze the methylation of the N6 position of adenylate (M6A) and are opposed by demethylases which include FTO and ALKBH5.

M6A modification is important in epigenetic transcriptional regulation and is present in many eukaryotes, including humans, mice, zebrafish and even yeast. METTL3 (methyltransferase-like protein 3) and METTL14 (methyltransferase-like protein 14) are two catalytic subunits of the N6 adenine methyltransferase complex. In addition to regulating primary miRNA processing, methylation of adenosine residues also regulates mRNA cleavage, processing, translation efficiency, editing and stability, and correct regulation of circadian clocks, embryonic stem cell self-renewal, immune tolerance, meiosis, fertility in mice, and a variety of other responses toward normal and stress stimuli. Overexpression or irregular activation of RNA methyltransferases such as METTL3 may drive cancer progression through the promotion of translation, making this class of proteins a potential diagnostic marker and therapeutic target.
